Monica Chowdary, MD, is board-certified in emergency medicine as well as hospice and palliative medicine.

Dr. Chowdary earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed her emergency medicine residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where she served as chief resident. She went on to complete a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship at UCLA Health. She earned her bachelor's degree in public health from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with honors.

Dr. Chowdary's clinical interests include serious illness conversations in emergency settings and goals of care discussions for patients facing life-limiting conditions. She is passionate about teaching, having developed serious illness conversation training for emergency medicine learners at both Dartmouth and UCLA. She has also served as a clinical teaching and instructional design mentor.

Dr. Chowdary served on the bioethics committee at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center. She has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to vulnerable populations through her work with the BUSM Homeless Healthcare Initiative, AmeriCorps/ Community HealthCorps and as a patient advocate at San Francisco General Hospital.
