Patient Resources

Whether you have type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes, are newly diagnosed or have had diabetes for a long time, you may benefit from self-management training. Torrance Memorial Medical Center offers a variety of services to help you manage diabetes.

Diabetes Self-Management Classes

Ninety-nine percent of diabetes management is self-care. However, that doesn’t mean you are on your own. Our Diabetes Self-Management Training Program provides a comfortable, interactive environment where you can get all your questions answered. You’ll start with an individualized consultation, followed by four small-group classes. During the program, you will learn:

  • Prevention and treatment of high and low blood glucose
  • Medication management
  • Healthy meal planning for a lifetime
  • Understanding food labels
  • Healthy coping skills

Pre-Diabetes Class

If your blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough for a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, you may have pre-diabetes. We’ll help you navigate these waters during a monthly pre-diabetes class.

Diabetes and Pregnancy

If you are pregnant and have diabetes, you may be worried about its impact on your baby. Through our Sweet Success program, you can meet one-on-one with a diabetes educator to develop an individualized plan to help you and your baby stay healthy.

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Once you complete diabetes self-management training, you can continue to work one-on-one with a registered dietitian to refine your meal plan and support your goals.

Annual Follow Up

The world of diabetes is always changing. Ongoing education and follow up can help individuals with diabetes continue to improve their health and quality of life.

Support Group

Sometimes it helps to share and learn from others who are on a similar journey. The Diabetes Update support group provides a forum to express concerns, discuss experiences and ask questions among others living with diabetes.
