Lung Cancer

The second most common cancer affecting men and women, lung cancer accounts for about 14% of all cancer diagnoses in the U.S. Most cases of lung cancer are caused by smoking. Lung cancer can also be caused by exposure to other toxins, including environmental chemicals such as radon and chemicals found in polluted air.

Early detection of lung cancer raises the odds of survival. Current or past smokers are encouraged to ask about annual screenings for lung cancer; research shows that having annual CT scan screenings leads to earlier detection for people at high risk for lung cancer.
