Controlling Asthma, Allergies and COPD
Asthma is a disease in which the airways narrow, swell and make breathing difficult. Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to generally harmless substances. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and long-term bronchitis, is mainly caused by tobacco smoke, although air pollutants and genetics can be factors. What do all three have in common? They are chronic lung diseases with symptoms that can interfere with daily activities and sometimes lead to hospitalizations. Learn how each is diagnosed, who’s at risk, how to identify signs and triggers, what their correlation is with age, and what treatments are available to minimize discomfort and lung damage.
