Pain Management Services

It is estimated that 1 in 4 people in the United States will experience some form of chronic pain during their lifetime, the vast majority of which is untreated or under treated. Living with chronic or acute pain can not only have a major impact on your physical condition and your ability to perform daily activities, but it can also affect your social, psychological, and emotional well-being.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is any pain that lasts 3-6 months or longer. Chronic pain can be related to a health conditions such as arthritis, headaches, cancer, infections, back problems, nerve damage, or fibromyalgia, or it can be caused by an injury or surgery. In some cases, chronic pain doesn’t have an obvious cause. Chronic pain may cause other symptoms including:

  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Irritability and mood changes
  • Weakness
  • Increased stress or anxiety
  • Feelings of frustration or anger

Chronic pain may make you more likely to develop depression, a mental health condition that causes feelings of sadness or hopelessness that don’t go away and affect your ability to perform daily activities.

Acute Pain

Acute pain usually happens suddenly in response to an injury or surgery and lasts 3 months or less. Acute pain usually goes away after the injury heals or the underlying cause is resolved. Acute pain is typically managed by a primary care specialist or surgeon managing post-operative pain.

Common causes of acute pain which we treat include:

  • Back pain due to disc herniation
  • Spinal nerve compression
