Torrance Health IPA is currently accepting applications for a Medicare Risk Adjustment Coding Specialist to join our team. We are an Independent Physician Practice Association (IPA) affiliated with Torrance Memorial Medical Center, an award winning hospital located in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County.
The Medicare Risk Adjustment Coding Specialist coordinates and facilitates the production of reports for chart reviews and other focused HCC programs, supports physician and staff education in coding and documentation, inputs and reports on collected data.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Works as a member of the HCC department
  • Review and assess documentation and accurately translates chronic conditions into the appropriate diagnosis code from inpatient and outpatient medical records
  • Extracts data for Health Plan reports
  • Inputs data collected from HCC programs
  • Coordinates audits of Provider coding data
  • Responsible for scheduling of audits
  • Responsible for sending the Provider the list for chart reviews
  • Responsible for follow up communication to Providers
  • Assists in obtaining medical records from Providers to support audits requested by Health Plans
  • Assists in coordinating Physician and staff training sessions
  • Basic MS office skills needed to track audit results and communication to Providers
  • Ability to perform the following : Faxing, scanning, record storage, archiving records for storage
  • Travel is required for this position (must have dependable transportation). Must have a valid drivers license and be able to provide proof of valid vehicle insurance
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the organization

Education and Experience:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC, CCS)
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in HCC coding (must have current certification)
  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic level of proficiency with Microsoft Office: Excel, Outlook, Word, and Power Point
